Spectacular views and a counter laden with homemade food make Soutra Coffee House a special place to stop. Take a table on the terrace or at one of the enormous windows to drink in the expansive tableau of hills rolling into the distance. In one direction you can see across the Firth of Forth, in another out to the Bass Rock in the North Sea.
It’s the sister café to the gorgeous Carfraemill Hotel just down the road and shares its reputation for great food and warm hospitality. Bacon rolls come with a slice of haggis, sandwiches are hearty, soups are homemade and the cakes are reassuringly indulgent. The chai latte is particularly good.
Parking is plentiful and there’s a well-supplied toy corner for keeping children entertained while you enjoy your lunch or coffee. If you fancy a longer stop, stretch your legs in the Lammermuir Hills or visit the nearby medieval hospital at Soutra Aisle before heading on your way.
