M5

The Sheppy family have been pressing apples here for over two hundred years and the orchard is now under the care of David, a sixth generation ‘Master of Cider’. Inside, the modern and rustic décor pays homage to the farm’s long history of apple growing.

At The Apple Bay restaurant the menu is stacked with all things Somerset, such as in-house butchered sausages with caramelised onion gravy and cider battered fish and chips. If you fancy something lighter, the grilled goats cheese salad won’t disappoint. This is artisan cooking at reasonable prices, and you can buy some of the ingredients in the farm shop, which may reel you in with its fresh greens, high quality meats and vast cheese counter.

If you can spare an hour, and have a (selfless) designated driver, hop on a tour of the orchard, see the apples go from branch to barrel and sample the excellent product en route. Take a quick look at the farm museum while the kids have fun in the play area.
