A bastion of traditional farming, the fields around Limes Farm supply the shop and tearoom with lovingly grown and reared produce. The family have been tending the land here for 200 years and eschew chemicals in favour of a more organic approach, which more than shows in the flavour of the meat and vegetables. The tearoom and pared-back farm shop are housed in an old medieval barn. The ancient oven was discovered during renovations and stoked back up to bake bread, cakes and tarts daily. There’s a warm homeliness to the low beams, terracotta floor tiles and scrubbed wooden tables.
Service from Peter and his team is convivial and welcoming. They transform the farm’s field and hedgerow bounty into a toothsome selection of breakfasts, lunches and snacks. Kids will go crazy for the loaded chocolate brownies, which they can burn off with a visit to the animal petting area. Grown ups can leaf through books in the bookshop over a smooth coffee and slice of courgette and avocado cake.
