M40

* This place has changed hands since we last visited and is now called Nel's at The Pavilion...we've heard it's still rather good. *

Your shoulders will drop as soon as you arrive at the Pavilion Café, a wood cabin perched at the side of the cricket pitch in the sleepy Warwickshire village of Lighthorne. Run by owner Ben, the café’s relaxed informality, friendly welcome and countryside setting are instantly soothing. Staff ferry plates of steaming comfort food to tables and sofas by the wood burner or out to the terrace, where parents can watch kids run around on the green when there’s no match on. Bare wood shelves are stacked with books and magazines to encourage you to linger.

People rave about the breakfasts and afternoon teas (especially popular after working up an appetite on the country paths nearby), and cups of tea are best paired with the homemade cakes, perhaps coffee and walnut or black cherry.

There’s ample parking, dogs are welcome throughout and a little gift shop at the rear stocks locally made crafts and goodies.
