A stop at Strawberry Fields Farm Shop, at the gateway to Cornwall, makes any traffic jam on the journey to the South West bearable. Restaurant, coffee lounge, farm shop with artisan bakery, deli and butchery - you'll find everything you need to unwind and refuel.
The Mounce family started farming here more than 20 years ago with just a plot of strawberries: now their fields supply almost everything the kitchen needs for the farmhouse menu – meat, eggs, fruit and veg, often muddy from the field. It makes for excellent breakfasts and delicious cream teas, served with clotted cream and the farm’s own strawberry jam. ‘The scones would have made Mary Berry cry,’ reported one customer.
Recreate it yourself at home by raiding the farm shop next door, which is stocked with irresistible goodies from home-reared beef and lamb to home-baked quiches, pies, hams and outrageously good ice cream made with the farm’s soft fruit. Parking is plentiful and there is plenty of space for you and your four-legged friends to stretch your legs.
