Clare named her tea rooms after her daughter but was inspired by her mum, Eunice, to honour the family talent for baking and a blether (that's a chat, for any non-natives). Behind the enticing turquoise and pink frontage, the dog-friendly café and tea room rings with the bustle of a busy team and their happy chatter, with twinkly eyed, good-humoured Clare the ring-leader. Hettie’s Loose Leaf Teas – all 32 flavours – are blended in-house and have become so popular they’re now shipped all over the world; newer on the scene is the coffee, roasted exclusively for Hettie's.
You can lunch on sandwiches served with pink coleslaw, panini, homemade sausage rolls (like none you've seen before) and flat-bread pizzas...but it’s the cake that people really come for. Try the signature carrot cake or a strawberry tart and be warned that if you opt for Hettie's famous afternoon tea, you’ll need a riverside walk (where you can also find free parking) before settling back into the car.
