A labour of love for Hazel, the Butterfly Bakery is a brilliant neighbourhood café on Uddingston’s high street. Occupying one half of a rose-coloured stone building with a handsome bay window the café is bright and inviting with scrubbed wooden tables and walls decorated with pictures of Hazel’s finest creations.
She’s been conjuring up celebratory cakes for family and friends for years and now they form the centrepiece of her café – multilayered, multi-flavoured and impressive. Try a slice of maple and pecan or white chocolate and cranberry, or go for a lemon curd cupcake. Confectionary is served alongside tasty breakfasts (including great sausages from the butcher across the street) and home-cooked lunches of soups, toasted sandwiches and baked potatoes.
Plentiful parking is available at the back, where you’ll also catch a glimpse of the Tunnock’s factory – the production house of Scotland’s much-loved snowballs and tea cakes.
