Originally a disused 18th century barn and coach house, Hanley Farm Shop stands on the A48 between Chepstow and Lydney, overlooking the beautiful Severn Valley.
Now a farm shop with café, deli and butchery, it has become a culinary showcase for numerous local food and drink producers. Growers on a land share scheme in the field next door supply some of the seasonal vegetables, herbs and micro leaves to the shop. In the butchery, organically reared beef comes direct from the farm and the lamb, pork and chicken sourced from other local farmers, and there’s even an on-site florist and golf driving range.
With its exposed oak beams, comfortable sofas, armchairs and a wood burning stove the café is relaxed and homely; food is always freshly prepared. Pies, quiches, sausage rolls and fantastic cakes are all
baked in the kitchen. If you’re passing in spring, try to catch the Dancing Cow Day when the herd is gleefully released back into the field after a winter indoors.
