People rave about the breakfasts and Sunday roasts at Farmer’s Fayre, but whether you stop in for an early bacon sandwich or for a slice of cake at tea time, you’ll be impressed by the flavours. Lunches include delicious combinations such as soured and scorched mackerel salad with beetroot, red cabbage and watercress, or mushroom, garlic, mozzarella and spinach tart. Many are cooked on the in-store Aga and you can relax over your coffee next to the cosy wood-burning stove.
The airy, family-run farm shop and restaurant is found on the sprawling National Agricultural Exhibition Centre at Stoneleigh Park (don’t be put off by the barrier and cheery security guards), underlining its commitment to good local ingredients from nearby farms. If you like what you taste, pick up some of the produce in the adjoining farm shop, which stocks produce from more than 40 local suppliers: chutneys, home-baked cakes, cheese and regional delicacies alongside a range of tempting homeware and antiques.
