Naturalists, twitchers and garden lovers may insist on making a day of it to explore the stunning 130 acres of Fairhaven Woodland & Water Garden. Stretch your legs on four miles of pathways or take a 20-minute boat trip on Fairhaven’s private broad, and look out for the 95 different bird species found here.
For those with less time the tearoom and shop are available without paying entry. Park in the field and head over to the low wooden buildings containing the shop and café. If you’re early in the day, try the Great Norfolk breakfast. If you’re too late for that treat, don’t worry – light lunches, homemade specials and fresh local cakes can’t fail to satisfy. Luxury ice cream – Ronaldo’s, the local favourite – shouldn’t be missed either. On warmer days head to the large outdoor area – dogs are welcome here and will find water bowls ready filled and waiting. This is a beautiful spot that feels remoter than it actually is. Grab some local jams and chutneys as you leave through the shop.
