A5

There are worse things to be addicted to than great food and drink, say the four brothers behind CSONS - a surprise of a café-restaurant packed with period features in a 16th-century Tudor building in Shrewsbury. The excellent food is inspired by the brothers' ex-pat experiences, with menus driven by nature's true flavours of the month. Chef Josh says, "I respect my ingredients and work with the seasons." The simple, unpretentious options change regularly and bring fresh produce to the fore, thanks to the family's firm bonds with trusted local suppliers.

Full breakfasts are served with chorizo and chipotle sauce; lunch might be a lamb taco, cauliflower pakora or a mix of small plates. Try the famous cinnamon buns or a gluten-free chocolate brownie with a coffee. Dinner, served on Fridays and Saturdays, is a real flavour adventure (think sesame salmon with kimchi and teriyaki). There’s a lovely courtyard garden and colouring pages to occupy the children.
