Hemmed in by the Malvern Hills on one side and the river Severn on the other, this pocket of England is perfect for fruit growing. The Clive family have been tending the trees at their fruit farm since 1921, now under the watchful eyes of Jane and Charlie, and their son Rich, and it’s well worth swinging off the M5 to find. Once just a small shed and cash drawer, the farm shop and café now fill two long red-brick
barns and are supplied by farmers from across the Vale of Evesham. Breakfasts are hearty, lunches liberal and the cakes worthy of a farmhouse kitchen. The shop provides everything you could need for
a decent weekly shop or car picnic: the cider, apple and pear juices, grown and pressed here on the farm, are unmissable.
The views over the countryside are sublime and children will love the small play area and feeding the resident pigs, peacocks and hens, especially if you’re passing in the morning when they can lend a hand with egg collecting.
Their sister farm shop and café, Clive’s of Cropthorne, is well worth a visit if you’re travelling closer to Evesham.
