A49

Camped in the Tern Valley, Fordhall Farm is a beacon of organic farming, taking the bold step of eschewing chemicals more than 65 years ago. These days the community-owned farm showcases its light environmental touch in its strikingly renovated Old Dairy building, which houses its shop and dog-friendly organic café.

The slate floors, log burner and sturdy wooden tables give the café a farmhouse kitchen warmth. Fill your bellies with sumptuous plates of grass-fed beef, lamb and Gloucester Old Spot pork – the farm’s pigs feast on the by-products of Joules’ brewery down the road – all served with locally sourced and organic, where possible, vegetables. Or buy a feast in the farm shop and take it out front to enjoy in the picnic area.

Before you go, take the kids off to make dens in the woodland and climb on the rope trails, or give the kids and dogs some exercise on one of three farm trails (you may need wellies!).
