Just seconds from the main road this cosy deli is a proper treat. It’s located in the intriguing town of Poundbury, an experimental development built on Duchy of Cornwall land. The architects’ aim was to combat post-war suburban sprawl and create a town with real character. They certainly succeeded.
Olives Et Al sits on the edge of the beautiful central square. The architectural detail of the streets transports you to the continent – as do the contents and decor of the deli and café. The menu is a homage to the Mediterranean, often with a modern twist, such as fig and goats cheese tart served with pomegranate molasses or feta, aubergine and honey pie. The coffee is the ‘the best in Poundbury’ according to locals and if the smell as you enter
is anything to go by, they’re right. The deli counter will provide anything you need for a quick pit stop, and you can take away your coffee too. Parking is plentiful outside on the square
