Mere is just off the A303 on the edge of the Cranborne Chase AONB, an area known for its archaeological riches. It's also a Palladian stone's throw from the National Trust's Stourhead.
In the village you'll find Visit Hillbrush, set alongside the UK's largest brush manufacturer. It combines eating, shopping and a museum in one unique stop-off experience. The museum documents 100 years of this vital trade's history; Hillbrush has been making brushes since 1922 and over 3,000 products are made there today. The fascinating visitor centre and modern restaurant complement the colourful, tactile and surprisingly family-friendly museum, which exhibits fibres from around the world plus examples of some of the first automated brush-making machines.
Their open-plan restaurant serves a range of high-quality breakfasts and lunches; barista-styled coffees are ready to compliment the cakes beneath cloches. The shop sells unique local gifts and products from fellow Royal Warrant holders and dogs are welcome on the sunny terrace.
