M6

A pen of goats bleat for their breakfast outside Red Bank Farm Shop, while Limousin and Angus cows graze in the fields behind. The meat is as fresh as it comes, with the beef and pork reared, aged and sold here on the family farm. Convenient BBQ or breakfast boxes make picking the best cuts easy: try the sausages and meat in the café before you buy.

Shelves are loaded with free-range eggs, flours, preserves, Cheshire honey, dipping crackers and ready meals. A small but stylish café – with dark wood cladding and cheery festoon lights, decorated with vintage posters and coffee sacks – serves excellent breakfasts, lunches and coffees. The covered seating area is dog-friendly.

Breakfast might be bacon on barm cake (bread roll) or smoked salmon and cream cheese on toast; lunch a hot roast beef baguette with caramelised onion gravy or a cheesy meatball sub. In the afternoon, snack on pork pies, sinful gluten-free brownies or chocolate and peanut butter flapjacks.
