M6

Brockholes is a nature lover’s paradise with a unique, strikingly modern visitor village that floats on water. Alongside the visitor centre and activity room is the traditional Kestrel Kitchen. You can fill up on great-value home-cooked dishes – breakfast barms, homemade soups, vegan salad boxes – while enjoying panoramic lake views with a fresh-roasted, organic coffee.

Peckish is Brockholes' second café, with a modern edge and selection of tasty Lancashire street food options. Its ice-cream cabin - open on hotter days - has classic and plant-powered flavours and a scrumptious cake range. Adventure off to the impressive playground (with its diggers and zip-wires) or explore the network of family-friendly paths around the 250-acre site.

The giftshop brims with local gifts and crafts. As there are parking charges - income from which supports the Lancashire Wildlife Trust's vital work - it makes sense to turn this into a relaxing longer stop before hitting the road.
