‘The Fitz’ as it’s known to locals, was spruced up recently, breathing fresh life into a tired old boozer and transforming it into a glamorous gastropub. Large windows give a glimpse of the bar, where chunky furniture, leather wingback chairs, jugs of flowers and open fires cosily intermingle.
In the evening, the dining room has a stately feel, all gleaming gilt, swagged drapes, polished wood, inky tones and twinkling candlelight. Food is home-cooked and wholesome: wild boar sausages with bubble and squeak mash, steak and Swynnerton Stout pie and Fitz Mess, a delicious concoction of meringue, cream and seasonal fruits.
Custom-built furniture in the garden incorporates climbing plants and topiary twisted with fairy lights. The lovely Staffordshire countryside is perfect for a ramble to help you build up an appetite and there are suggested routes on their website.
