M6

A handsome, open-armed pub just minutes from the M6. Inside is snug and easy-going: chairs and benches strewn with royal purple cushions cluster around copper-clad fireplaces; tankards hang from a pot rack. Outside there’s a lawned garden where kids can play (till 9.30pm) and a patio terrace where blankets hang thoughtfully on chairs for chillier evenings.

Food is tasty and imaginative, perhaps the legendary homemade chicken, smoked ham, leek and tarragon pie, or the seafood sharing platter with smoked salmon, scampi, smoked mackerel pâté and
half a pint of prawns. Round off with a chocolate brownie, delicious Cheshire farm ice cream or the artisan cheese board.

Dogs are so welcome they’ve even introduced a ‘dog beer’ (made from meat-based stock) so four-legged friends can drink companionably with their owners. Enjoy a walk afterwards with a lovely loop around Shakerely Mere lake.
