You’ll see No.11’s handsome shop front – large windows painted a soft shade of sage – standing on Uffculme’s village green. Inside, the décor is straightforward and minimalistic, with dark grey church chairs and wooden tables set against white walls. It’s a friendly village coffee shop, where the service comes unfailingly with a smile and the coffee is both Fairtrade and excellent. Owner Ian is uncompromising when it comes to food quality, serving delicious cooked breakfasts and then ciabatta (maybe brie and bacon) and fresh soup for lunch. You can fill the gap with homemade cakes, savoury tarts served with crisp salads, filling soups and even an ice cream (the apricot is scrummy) for a sweet bite. Gluten-free diners are well looked after too.
Take time to explore riverside footpaths by the Culm before you head on your way; Coldharbour Mill on the riverbank is one of the UK’s oldest woollen mills, part of the UK’s industrial revolution in the 18th century.
