You’ll find lusty, home-cooked food at The Edge, a café that's celebrating its first decade on Wotton's photogenic high street. Huge windows open up the bright space and allow uninterrupted people-watching. Floors are stripped back, chairs are painted in greens and creams and the brick-walled garden is a charming place to soak up the rays.
Chris, Kathryn and daughter, Beth, stack the counter each day with oven-warm cakes and homemade scotch eggs, quiches and sourdough breads. Churros, mocha loaf and peanut butter brownies are crafted by Beth's Cake Box business, based in neighbouring Nailsworth. Her croissants and Danish pastries certainly make breakfast memorable, with Extract the coffee of choice.
Lunches are delicious, perhaps a butternut squash salad, spinach and sun-dried tomato flatbread or goats' cheese focaccia with red onion relish. If you've got time, Wotton merits a whole afternoon's visit, not just a quick detour.
