M6

Kenyon Hall Farm, on the Cheshire and Lancashire border, has been lovingly tended by the Bulmers for generations - a family that's keen to educate young people about food, farming and the environment. Their farm shop bursts with fresh seasonal fruit and veg, chutneys and cakes, cheeses and meats, honey from the hives and oven-warm bread: the makings of a gold-standard picnic.

The Plant Centre blooms in spring and come summer, rolling PYO fields open up for the picking of strawberries, raspberries and more. Autumn's Maize Maze is a must-see (as is the new Sunflower Experience) and the outdoor play area is a hit with little people. In winter, coffee and cake come into their own.

Everything served in the café – delicious soups, stews, sandwiches and salads – comes from fresh local ingredients. Breakfast is a vision of traditional farmhouse cooking with ‘proper’ sausage, bacon and free-range eggs. Settle in with a rich, locally-roasted coffee or steaming pot of tea.
