The Riverford Field Kitchen is a cornucopia of delights based on the family’s organic farm, so you can be assured that the food will be free of any contaminants. There’s just one sitting (lunch every day and supper most), tables are shared and the whole restaurant eats at the same time; you must reserve as they only cook for those booked to reduce waste. The food is fresh from the fields, the atmosphere light-hearted and convivial, and the cooking superb. Vegetables are the main focus here, served in all manner of creative guises and varied daily depending on what’s in season. Portions are generous and if you’ve got room, puddings are every bit as delicious as the mains.
Make time, if you can, for a field to fork farm tour. It will certainly work up an appetite for lunch! Check the website for dates. If there’s no tour you can wander around the restaurant kitchen garden and polytunnels – there’s always plenty to see. People come from far and wide to eat here and it’s worth
every drop of fuel.
