Blasus is a Carmarthen institution for cheese connoisseurs and oenophiles. The word means ‘tasty’ in Welsh, which is the mission of owners Paul and Delyth, who've run the place for over 12 years. The friendly staff are ready to tempt you with a sip of a magnificent wine or a slice of farmhouse cheese. The cheese counter is exceptional, with good raw-milk examples of Europe’s best, and there are plush Italian wines to accompany them.
If you're compiling a picnic you’re sorted: there are sausage rolls, savoury tarts, charcuterie, antipasti, focaccia and homemade frangipane tarts to finish. Foodies will love the changing takeaway baguette menu (sweet chilli crayfish is a winner) with interesting, seasonal fillings. All the packaging is biodegradable so you can take away with a clear conscience. The town is a warren of narrow streets so factor in a short walk from St Peters car park. Castle collectors can tick off Carmarthen and Laugharne while in the area.
