Foodies will love this family-run deli. Blasus means ‘tasty’ in Welsh, which is the founding philosophy of owners Paul and Delyth. The welcome is friendly – you may be handed a snifter of wine to taste or have a tempting plate of cheese wafted beneath your nose – and the staff are knowledgeable.
You’ll find freshly made sandwiches on sourdough – perhaps goat’s cheese and fig or sweet chilli crayfish – next to Spanish and Italian charcuterie and artisan cheeses. On the shelves are oils, vinegars and lip-smacking wines. In the main counter there are pastries (chorizo in puff pastry is a go-to favourite), savoury tarts and cauldrons of herby antipasti and fresh basil pesto. Baked goodies include frangipane tarts and pastries. The cheese counter is exceptional. Fill a hamper to the brim with focaccia, tapas and pâtés for the ultimate picnic. Carmarthen is a warren of narrow streets, but the town’s huge St Peter’s pay-and-display car park is a few minutes’ walk away.
