M4

Tredegar House and its owners and inhabitants have played an important role in the Newport community for over 500 years. Dressed to impress, this opulent estate once hosted extravagant parties for the cultural elite and its histories come alive through captivating tales of inheritance disputes, war heroism and Russian princesses.

Today, Tredegar is a destination in its own right with much to arrest the attention beyond the lavish house. The stable block is chock-full of craft shops and there are beautifully tended gardens, green spaces, play areas and fitness stations, plus hungry ducks to feed. Borrow a blanket from Reception and unwind on the grass after refuelling on scrumptious, seasonal meals and snacks in The Brewhouse Tearoom. Ingredients plundered from the kitchen garden go into soups, Welsh rarebit, quiches and carrot cake with profits going back into the conservation of the house. Parking is Pay and Display and admission charges for non-NT members apply.
