Just off the motorway in the shadow of the fairytale Castell Coch, plan2ride is a pit-stop café on the edge of Fforest Fawr, which draws hikers, bikers and walkers to it like moths to a flame. Although born of cycling enthusiasts – they offer advice on local routes and a bike tune-up, and sell cycling-themed gifts and kit – the warm welcome is extended to all. You’d barely know it was once a garage. White walls, grey floors and open beams make it feel airy, and large patio doors from the small café give way to a sun-trap courtyard.
It’s primarily a coffee and snack stop. Coffee is smooth, made with South American beans roasted in Caerphilly; teas are varied and smoothies freshly made. Locally baked cakes and pastries are enticing – from pear and chocolate to rhubarb and cinnamon, and rocky road; gluten-free options are readily available.
plan2ride is 100% powered by renewable energy and is committed to reusing or recycling every scrap of waste it produces.
