This is a cheerful spot on the Englefield Estate, between Theale and Pangbourne. Several converted cow sheds now form a wonderful space with a farm shop, deli, traditional butchery counter, florist and a licensed café with a menu that works with the seasons. The café with its vaulted wooden ceiling serves food all day: stacked pancakes with streaky bacon and maple syrup for breakfast, homemade soup or quiche for lunch. Spoil yourself with an afternoon tea - bubbles optional.
The shop stocks a mouth-watering array of food including regional and local seasonal produce. There are fresh fruit and veg, eggs, honey, freshly-baked bread, biscuits, smoked fish, pies and juices. The butcher stocks fully traceable and ethically sourced meat from farms with exacting welfare standards; Cobbs' friendly master butchers can advise. If travelling with a dog, you're welcome to dine on the terrace. Nearby Pangbourne is home to Whitchurch Bridge, the last private toll-bridge over the Thames.
