Skirt round a lush field, past the shack selling freshly laid eggs via an honesty box, down a concrete farm track and you’ll see the large red-roofed barns of Newlyn’s Farm. Friendly Roger the butcher prepares the meat that the family have been producing here (four miles down the road, in fact) for four generations, alongside a heaving deli counter of olives, chicken liver pâté, fresh loaves, Hampshire cheese and fine pressed oils. The spacious farm shop also sells locally grown produce and a covetable range of foodie gifts.
The large, bright café with picture windows leads onto a patio terrace where you can breakfast on home-cured bacon with soft poached egg, or rolled porridge oats with cream, fruit and Hampshire honey washed down with freshly squeezed juice. For lunch, pick from burgers, triple-stacked sandwiches and piggy platters.
Cookery courses show you how to use the farm’s produce to best advantage throughout the seasons; if you’d rather someone else do the work, you’ll find dinner-party worthy ready meals using the farm’s ingredients in the freezer section.
