Foodies flock to the Three Horseshoes like birds coming home to roost, drawn by its reputation for fine food. The thatched pub is just 20 minutes outside Cambridge, over the road from the grand, copper-topped towers of Madingley Hall and on the fringe of pretty fields.
The pub’s large, bright conservatory – brick floor, wicker chairs and view over the landscaped garden – is a beautiful spot for savouring the imaginative, seasonal flavours which emanate from the kitchen. The menu is loosely inspired by the Mediterranean, but not pigeonholed; chefs take cues from around the globe. The menu is considered, varied and seasonal and changes frequently to keep the kitchen and flavours sharp: perhaps pan-fried squid, Tuscan bean soup, a vegetarian mezze board or stuffed guinea fowl. It’s on the pricey side, but worth every mouthful.
