Everyone needs a Blacker Hall Farm Shop on the edge of their town. With a deli, greengrocery, fishmonger, gift house, wine loft and drive-through take-away, it's a hamlet-full of West Yorkshire goodness, most of it grown or prepped on the farm itself. There are many corners and cabins to explore and the friendly staff pull out all the stops at Halloween and Christmas.
In the award-winning shop (run by Edward and Cheryl) shelves strain with temptation: from Wakefield rhubarb to Yorkshire ales and Cumbrian charcuterie. Trace the honest smell of home-baking to the in-house cakery (which makes pies and bread too), or pick up some dry-aged beef sirloin or Blacker Hall sausages from the butchery.
The Barn Café serves farmhouse food, from Yorkshire breakfasts to homemade quiches and afternoon teas. Relax indoors or at a courtyard table as the kids release that pent-up energy on the lawns or summer's Little Farmers Trail. Dogs are welcome outside. It's 10 minutes from Wakefield, home to the Hepworth art museum.
