Turn off the M1 into the old trading station of Stapleford, an unassuming town with red-brick terraces and a long high street, to find Buonissima. The bright bistro, café and bar rolled into one is open and light: wooden floors, red Chesterfields and clusters of tables invite you to linger. Tables on the wide pavement outside the elegant, charcoal grey frontage are great for people watching and al fresco lunches.
The chef, Pierangelo, is Sicilian and brings that Italian flair for flavours to the menu: homemade tiramisu in individual glasses, frittata with various fillings, antipasti served on lovely wooden platters and weekly pasta dishes. Try the pizzas with crispy bases topped with goodies fresh from the deli – accompanied by a glass of Menabrea (possibly Italy’s finest lager) or an Aperol Spritz. Pasqualini coffee is imported
from Italy, a rich blend that makes for a killer espresso; teas are loose leaf. Service is relaxed and friendly and kids are welcome.
