If you love organic food, don’t miss this beautiful farm, deli and café. Inger and Richard Mee have been farming the natural way on this 600-acre patch of Leicestershire since 2001. As you walk into a tastefully converted brick barn, a bulging deli counter greets you, touting its tempting fresh bread, chutneys, infused oils, cheeses, chocolates and meat produced on the farm, honey, eggs and veg, as well as gifts, jewellery and cards.
Everything in the café is homemade using predominantly organic ingredients: breakfasts of home-cured bacon, Whole Earth beans and artisan bread segue into gourmet sandwiches, farmer’s antipasti, mushrooms stuffed with Gruyère cheese and herbs, and chicken and three-cheese pie. Munch cakes, perhaps hazelnut tart or a chocolate brownie, with your coffee.
Service may be leisurely so you can drop the pace on a sunny terrace and lawn (dogs are allowed outside), and enjoy a cup of tea to the sound of birdsong and the light clink of crockery. Bliss.
