A delicious little deli above the castle on Laugharne’s main high street, the Ferryman is stuffed floor-to-ceiling with tantalising produce from Carmarthenshire and beyond: Perl Las blue cheese from Cardigan, môr seasoning and Welsh ales. Alongside local goodies, there’s a strong Spanish theme, from the chorizo jam to alcaparras, treacly honey and el almendro turrón.
Step out the back and there’s a dinky dining room where you can sit in and feast on those flavours. Lunch might be a bowl of lamb cawl, cauliflower and lentil pie, seafood chowder or a prawn open sandwich, open largely because it’s too stuffed to close. The mixed meat and cheese platters are a smorgasbord of the most delicious charcuterie and pickles owner Tom can lay his hands on. Wrap up with a slice of apricot frangipane or salted caramel brownie.
The coffee is smooth and best paired with a Welsh cake – try the apricot and salted almond. It’s a foodie’s delight.
