One for the eco-minded, the Pitney Farm Café is one of just a few Soil Association-accredited organic restaurants. Located at the heart of Glebe Farm, a small mixed organic farm, the café serves mostly homegrown food from eggs and veg to home cured bacon and 100% grass-fed beef.
It’s a charming wooden hut overlooking the vegetable market garden at the heart of the farm with a focus on sustainably sourced ingredients and everything made from scratch – fresh baked sourdough bread, pasties, cakes; the small, seasonal lunch and brunch menu caters for all. Choose from a homemade sausage roll using pork from their pigs or a hearty vegan lunch with freshly harvested vegetables. Grab a seat on the veranda and breathe in the country air over a cup of tea and a slice of lemon and gooseberry tart made with gluten-free split pea flour shortcrust pastry.
The shelves of the shop are filled with fabulous seasonal and local produce. You’ll find home-grown vegetables, homemade sausages, dried, cured Italian-style meats, Mendip Moments ice cream, locally pressed apple juice, handmade chocolates, Somerset cheeses and home-raised organic pork, beef and lamb.
