An unusual entrance leads through a courtyard full of bric-a-brac and junk shop treasures into a quaint, vintage tea room, where, tucked away in the mine counting house, Miss Molly’s serves honest food made in the kitchen from scratch.
The cake is phenomenal, as are the freshly cooked bacon sarnies. Lunch on crusty sandwiches, cheese toasties, jacket potatoes and paninis. Indulge in a caramel flapjack or toasted teacake in the afternoon. Tea is served in delicate vintage cups with finger sandwiches, home-baked cakes, savouries and fruit, and scones with clotted cream – this, after all, is the scone’s motherland.
Look out for seasonal, homemade additions (such as elderflower cordial in late spring) and the friendly in-house cat who is prone to commandeering laps. Dogs are welcome in the special dog area, which even has a special ‘à la bark’ menu of healthy canine treats. Browse the second-hand rooms before you leave to pick up your next upcycling project.
