A Suffolk stalwart, Wyken Vineyards has been showcasing local and seasonal food for over 20 years. Shetland sheep graze the patchwork of fields and the vineyard produces award-winning wines. Formal gardens crammed with topiary, herbs, roses, fruit trees and meandering peacocks, guinea fowl and chickens surround an Elizabethan manor house.
In a huge 17th-century Suffolk barn you’ll find the Country Store selling Wyken’s wine, hand-crafted pottery, Irish and Scottish woollens, beautiful books and unusual cards. The renowned Leaping Hare restaurant serves truly local dishes, such as Wyken venison (wild, not farmed) with carrots, celeriac gratin and granola, with an emphasis on flavours and the seasons.
Try the café for lighter and less formal fare. Breakfast eggs come from Wyken’s chickens and crab salad or lobster brioche roll use Norfolk seafood. A farmers’ market, held here every Saturday morning, sells local bread, cheese, apples and meat.
