A12

On the banks the River Alde, this vast complex of old Victorian maltings looks out over a breath-taking expanse of swaying reed beds. It’s well worth a visit to see the world-famous concert hall founded by Benjamin Britten and to enjoy the independent shops, cafés and galleries. If you want to stock up on Suffolk produce, the Food Hall and Fresh Food Pantry will provide everything you need, and if you’re passing on the first Saturday of the month make the most of the Farmers’ Market too.

For sit-down meals, you’re spoiled for choice. Lunch with a panoramic view can be enjoyed at the Concert Hall Café – birdwatchers, don’t forget your binoculars. Café 1885 is great for coffee and cake, as well as a seasonal menu inspired by the Farmers’ Market. For a more traditional tea room, The Granary Tea Shop offers the best sandwiches, baked potatoes, cakes and scones.
