Snuggle up by the open fires in the oak-beamed bar or settle down to a meal in the lofty double-height dining room known as the Well Room, which takes its name from a 60-foot-deep well in the corner. The Angel Inn is a traditional country pub in the heart of Constable country, but within easy reach of the A12 down pretty green lanes.
This 17th-century coaching inn has been tastefully restyled by Suffolk Country Inns (who also run the The Anchor at nearby Nayland). It’s open all day every day, serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. You’ll find a daily changing menu that offers traditional pub dishes, such as butcher’s sausages and mash, cod and chips, as well as modern European dishes,
such as baked burrito with spiced bean goulash, and seasonal puddings, including elderflower mousse with gooseberry ginger ice cream. Afternoon teas of finger sandwiches, scones and home-baked cakes are a real treat (but you must book ahead).
