Emmett’s has been trading on the same site in the pretty village of Peasenhall since 1820 and is celebrating its 200-year anniversary next year and has a worldwide reputation for its locally sourced ham and bacon. The shop retains some original fittings and is packed with beautifully presented produce. You’ll find abundant displays of fresh fruit and vegetables, farmhouse cheese, Sri Lankan chutney and Suffolk apple juice. There’s a distinctly Hispanic feel too, with Spanish chocolate, olive oil, almonds and honey.
The small café showcases Emmett’s produce and makes a perfect breakfast stop. Don’t miss the home-cured ham, free-range bacon and egg or the Spanish equivalent – egg, chorizo picante, tomato and orange. For lunch the generous English, Italian and Spanish charcuterie or the cheese platters are perfect for sharing over a glass of wine. Excellent coffee, tea and cakes are served all day. When the sun shines you can savour the sweet smoke wafting from the smokehouse in the pretty cottage garden.
