Broom House Farm sits at the top of a hill looking out over the dip and roll of the countryside towards Durham cathedral. The coffee shop is cosy in winter with a wood burner and gleaming domes of cakes, whilst in summer there is seating outside, overlooking a huge grassy play field and meadows stocked with sheep and cattle. During the warmer months there’s nature-based family action in the Forest Adventure (buy a ticket at the coffee shop) – let off some steam here before heading back to the café to enjoy home cooked snacks and freshly ground coffee.
Ingredients sourced from the farm and surrounding area are whizzed into irresistible bites, such as bacon sandwiches, beef burgers and toasties. Traybakes and cakes are summoned daily from the oven. Fill your bags in the farm shop on the way out: our picks include Durham honey and Broom House chutney.
