A light-hearted café-bar on Boston Spa’s high street, Tom Foolery is decorated whimsically with umbrella light fittings, John Lennon artwork and metal Tube signs. It’s community-focused (weekly quiz on Tuesdays) and informal, so you’re as welcome to slump into a sofa with a coffee and raspberry blondie from their delicious cake and pastry selection, as sit at a table and order the works.
Varied breakfasts will suit all appetites – toasted teacakes, Nduja and avocado on sourdough, chicken and waffles with 24-hour chicken gravy (yes really - try it) and big fry-ups with local sausages, treacle-cured bacon, black pudding and flat mushrooms. Salads and sandwiches are on the menu at lunchtime – speck ham, spiced peach and peppers; cumin roasted falafel with spiced squash purée – along with bread baked in house; if you’re hungry, the burgers will more than fill a hole. In the evening enjoy their Neapolitan-inspired pizzas or small dishes such as Cajun salmon croquettes, calamari, halloumi fries. There’s a good choice of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan dishes so no-one will miss out. And pity the designated driver with the extensive cocktail menu, every-changing selection of craft ales and carefully curated wine list on offer.
