A beatific 17th-century country pub where fresh eggs sit on the bar for casual sale, you’ll wish The White Hart was your local. Rough stone walls, flagstone floors, vintage signs, salvaged agricultural tools and a mishmash of furniture give a comfortable, lived-in feel.
The menu is seasonal and fresh, and rooted in the fields around. Starters might include poached pear with panko-crumbed brie and walnuts, homemade guacamole on ciabatta crostini with a poached egg or beetroot-cured salmon. Feast on the chargrilled steak for main course or tuck into a red pepper and halloumi burger. Round off with forest fruit fool or white chocolate and elderflower panna cotta. Sandwiches and nibbles are available for lighter bites. Eat by the fire in the bar, grab a table in the luminous orangery or take advantage of the suntrap courtyard garden brimming with petunias.
