With views reaching over the Nottinghamshire countryside and 16 delicious ice cream flavours, Newfield Dairy has become something of an institution. Try its award-winning raspberry macaroon, maple and pecan or ginger and honeycomb ice cream or an imaginative flavour using seasonal fruits such as damsons and cream, apple and cinder toffee ripple or liquorice and elderberry.

The flavours are born in the fields around you, and that farm-fresh ethos applies to excellent café fodder too: a farmer’s fuel breakfast, hot steak baguettes and homemade quiches. Coffee is locally roasted and served barista-style, best taken with a slice of homemade cake. The lemon curd cake is particularly popular. As you’d expect, the floats and milkshakes are legendary. Gluten-free, skinny and dairy-free dishes are available, as well as yummy sorbets and gluten-free cones.

The café overlooks the fields and a safe play area. It’s warmed by the wood burner in winter and has plenty of games to keep everyone amused. Outside there’s lots of seating for taking in those views, and a grassy lawn and children’s play area for lolling about in summer.
